Some of the important topics/ events include:-

Major General Sir Henry Lawrence and his wife Lady Honoria Lawrence decide to found Asylums primarily for the orphans of British soldiers serving the East India Company in India or who died in such service.

Sir Henry was killed in Lucknow during the Mutiny of 1857

On September 6, 1858 the Lawrence Asylum was set up in Ootacamund in memory of Sir Henry Lawrence

Lovedale was selected to be the site for the new campus and the Asylum shifted once the buildings were constructed. 

The Asylum was run as a Military Asylum with the Principals being, without exception well-qualified  ordained priests of the Church of England
